new year's eve was a lot of fun here in ub. first my teammates and i enjoyed tacos (with home made flour tortillas) and a few episodes of "the office". then andrea, gillian, and i met up with some other people and went to the main square in town to watch fireworks and experience some of the mongolian mayhem.
here we are on the outskirts of the main square. gillian and i are holding remains of fireworks someone set off earlier. once we got closer to the center of the square it seemed that we were the only three people without our own fireworks. mayhem indeed!
the blur you see on the left side of this picture is the breath of the person who was taking it. just to give you some idea of how cold it was.
there's an outdoor ice skating rink at the south end of the square where a good number of people were skating their way into 2008.

New Years looks amazing. Fireworks! Iceskating! Do Mongolians kiss at midnight? The pictures of Chriatmas are great too. It's neat to see that kids there are still fans of Veggie Tales.
Amanda, I had a dream about you last night. That you lost you coat and was wearing a really shabby one with like 3/4 length sleeves! You hated it but you said it was all you could find in UB! Crazy!
sarah shirley, my kids love veggie tales and love introducing the veggie gang to their Mongolian friends, too. =) We can't get VT here, though. We get it from friends in the US.
hey a! oh, to be able to see your breath cuz it's that cold :) just yesterday as we arrived to aceh we got your wonderful mongo calendar - a perfect housewarming gift (very punny considering it's wool 'n all) ! luv u, thx 4 making our 1st wk here fabulous!
hey sis! your new year's celabration looks like fun! (minus the seeing your breath in the air...haha) How's your winter coat working out for you? All three of you look pretty cozy *not neccessarily warm, I can tell* in your "winter gear". love you!!
